Plant Molecular Science Center, Chiba University, will combine the strengths of Chiba University's plant molecular science research to form an outstanding research base through cross-disciplinary and fusion of campuses and departments, and further strengthen this field. Aiming to be a leading center for plant molecular science in Japan and abroad. In particular, this center focuses on plant molecules (especially genes and chemical components) in plants that support the earth and humankind, and promotes research for the molecular elucidation of plant functions defined by the genome and environment and its application.
Plant Molecular Science Center will act with emphasizing on the following global perspective. In 2015, the United Nations set 'Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs' for 'Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development', a collection of 17 global goals. A majority of governmental organizations and private sectors are trying to tackle these 17 goals by the different approaches for the future of our world. We believe plant science, in general, can contribute several of these goals, i.e., Goal 2: Zero hunger, Goal 3: Good health and well-being for people, Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy, Goal 13: Climate action, and Goal 15: Life on land. Plant Molecular Science Center will contribute to these goals by aligning with other public organizations and private sectors through innovation in plant science and technology.
